Hi, I'm Vitalii Sheveliev (ViSh), a self-taught artist from Kyiv, Ukraine.
My art spans several styles — from abstract to impressionism and expressionism — depending on the mood, idea, and energy I want to express.
I create pieces from imagination, memory, or pure feeling. I dive into a process where intuition leads the way, and each brushstroke builds toward something unknown and new, or half forgotten.
I work mainly with oil paints and hardboard. Hardboard paintings are relatively compact — they fit neatly into cardboard boxes. It matters. If, God forbid, my home is ever hit by shelling and I need to evacuate (shellings happens often in Kyiv), I can quickly grab two boxes of paintings and take them with me.
War in Ukraine made clear that human life is fragile and vulnerable — like a mirage, like a vision that a sudden gust of wind can scatter in an instant.
A sense of danger sharpens feelings. I often use vivid colors to reflect the intensity of my emotions.
Or i drawn to warm tones and the motif of sunset — that special time of day when nature and the city begin to slow down, find balance, radiate warmth and comfort.
